Fans have been worrying that Daryl Dixon’s days were numbered on The Walking Dead. This was started with reports that actor Norman Reedus had put his Atlanta home up for sale.
In a recent interview Reedus squashed these rumors by admitting “that’s not even my house. It’s a rumor.” So fans can rest easy that Daryl’s death isn’t imminent, or at least as imminent as they were thinking.
The Walking Dead is set to begin filming season 6 next week and will premiere in October. Look for the companion series Fear The Walking Dead later this summer.
The companion series to The Walking Dead is on its way. It has been contracted for two season, the first of which will air late summer 2015. This will give us a bit of walker action until the regular series returns in October.
Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead will be 6 episodes like the original series. It has also been announced that the series will not explain the origin of the zombie apocalypse.
I’m mixed about the series right now. It’s going to be nice having some TWD during the summer and having a shorter wait, but I am sceptical that it will live up to the original series.
Rumor has it that the pilot will be filmed in California. A Reddit user supposedly got a notice that their town may be used for shooting the pilot.
This goes against the supposed casting in Pennsylvania. However, the pilot could be shot in California, then the rest of the series shot in Pennsylvania to save costs. Time will only tell for these details.
The pilot episode of the Walking Dead spinoff is titled Cobalt. Two cast members, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey, will play siblings, two of the six main characters I had outlined in a previous post. They should be interesting characters, though I’m curious to see more casting decisions. Check out my previous post here for information on the casting call.
**If you have not seen the mid season finale, this post contains spoilers! Proceed at your own discretion.**
Before we get into the part everyone one is talking about, lets touch on a few other points.
Rick is getting to be pretty ruthless this season. As they said on The Talking Dead last night, it seems like you get one chance with Rick, he’s done with second chances.
Are we going to see new members to the group? Rick offered to take anyone from the hospital that wanted to leave. There wasn’t really anyone I could see that would make a good addition, save possibly Noah.
I think we all had a feeling that we were going to lose a member of the group during the mid season finale. The hints were there if you looked careful. There is of course, the recent focus on Beth, they have built her character and fleshed out her story. The biggest hint to me though, was the episode title. It may not have even have meant to be a hint, but it fits pretty nicely. Any musically inclined reader knows that a coda is a passage that brings a musical piece to an end. A fitting title for the last episode of a character known to sing and be the only real musical presence in the show.
I enjoyed Beth’s character, she had a wonderful arc of a young woman struggling with the world she is in, and through struggle and hardship came to be a survivor in her own right. She brought something to the show that no other character did, and it will be missed. The events of her death unfolded in slow motion for me, I knew it was happening, helpless to watch it just as the rest of the group was.
The loss of Beth was rough, made even harder after Daryl and then Maggie’s reactions. If you watched The Talking Dead afterwards, the in memoriam was heart wrenching as well.
What do you think is next for Rick and the group? And what are your reactions to Beth’s death?
It is looking like The Walking Dead spinoff series is coming to Pennsylvania. A casting call has been posted here. If it’s real, it looks like a great opportunity, and pays well. I’m excited to see zombies coming back to Pennsylvania. Feel free to post your comments below.
Got out of work early today and decided to stop in to Cash-In Culture near my house. So many awesome/nostalgic things, but walked out with these two little guys. Already had the Khal Drogo figure since he’s awesome, but these two fit with the horror collection. Anyone else collect these little guys?
