Daryl Dixon Death Rumors Silenced

Fans have been worrying that Daryl Dixon’s days were numbered on The Walking Dead.  This was started with reports that actor Norman Reedus had put his Atlanta home up for sale.

In a recent interview Reedus squashed these rumors by admitting “that’s not even my house.  It’s a rumor.” So fans can rest easy that Daryl’s death isn’t imminent, or at least as imminent as they were thinking.

The Walking Dead is set to begin filming season 6 next week and will premiere in October.  Look for the companion series Fear The Walking Dead later this summer.

Fear The Walking Dead

The companion series to The Walking Dead is on its way.  It has been contracted for two season, the first of which will air late summer 2015.  This will give us a bit of walker action until the regular series returns in October.

Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead will be 6 episodes like the original series.  It has also been announced that the series will not explain the origin of the zombie apocalypse.

I’m mixed about the series right now.  It’s going to be nice having some TWD during the summer and having a shorter wait, but I am sceptical that it will live up to the original series.

The Walking Dead ‘Coda’: A Fitting Swan Song?

**If you have not seen the mid season finale, this post contains spoilers! Proceed at your own discretion.**

Before we get into the part everyone one is talking about, lets touch on a few other points.

Rick is getting to be pretty ruthless this season.  As they said on The Talking Dead last night, it seems like you get one chance with Rick, he’s done with second chances.

Are we going to see new members to the group? Rick offered to take anyone from the hospital that wanted to leave.  There wasn’t really anyone I could see that would make a good addition, save possibly Noah.

I think we all had a feeling that we were going to lose a member of the group during the mid season finale.  The hints were there if you looked careful.  There is of course, the recent focus on Beth, they have built her character and fleshed out her story.  The biggest hint to me though, was the episode title.  It may not have even have meant to be a hint, but it fits pretty nicely.  Any musically inclined reader knows that a coda is a passage that brings a musical piece to an end.  A fitting title for the last episode of a character known to sing and be the only real musical presence in the show.

I enjoyed Beth’s character, she had a wonderful arc of a young woman struggling with the world she is in, and through struggle and hardship came to be a survivor in her own right.  She brought something to the show that no other character did, and it will be missed.  The events of her death unfolded in slow motion for me, I knew it was happening, helpless to watch it just as the rest of the group was.

The loss of Beth was rough, made even harder after Daryl and then Maggie’s reactions.  If you watched The Talking Dead afterwards, the in memoriam was heart wrenching as well.

What do you think is next for Rick and the group?  And what are your reactions to Beth’s death?

TWD: Thoughts on the Coming Mid-Season Finale

**This post contains spoilers or the latest episode and speculation of episodes to come**

Daryl and Noah rejoined Rick and the group, and they’ve laid out a plan to rescue Beth and Carol.  Daryl sided with Tyreese and his more conservative approach to rescuing them.  Is this a sign of changes that Daryl is going through, or is it because he has more at stake than anyone else? His two closest companions are in danger, and Daryl has seen how quickly things can go wrong.

Even with the conservative approach. Things go wrong.  There is a shootout when they try to capture the cops, and Daryl nearly gets bit.  Nice use of a walker skull as a weapon though.  Then the episode ends with Sasha knocked out, and one of the cops escaping, presumably to warn the rest of the group.

Next episode is the mid season finale, so we know it is going to be intense.  Here are some thoughts on what may happen.  I think the Grady group is going to get warned from the escaped cop.  This takes sway the element of surprise that Rick and his group needed.  They’re going to walk into a trap, or atleast a prepared adversary.  Fighting will break out, and there will be a death from the major group.  I’m thinking either Beth or Carol, though it could be someone else.  They’ve spent a lot of time recently building up both characters, and viewers have grown to love both of them.

Following this, Daryl will be inconsolable over the loss, with the added effect that if he had backed Rick, this may never have happened.  The group will be left questioning themselves and what to do next, and Rick will regain a stronger, more stable leadership role though maybe not to the level of the ‘ricktatorship’.

So what do you think? What are your predictions?

New Info on The Walking Dead Spinoff

We are still waiting to find out the story of The Walking Dead spinoff, but we do know some information on it.

Robert Kirkman is of course involved.  Gale Ann Hurd and David Alpert are returning as executive producers.  An addition to this lineup, Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy) has been attached as the showrunner.  Erickson is directing the first episode, and wrote it alongside Kirkman.

The story is set to follow six main characters, detailed below:

Sean Cabrera, a Latino man in his 40’s and his rebellious son, Cody Cabrera.  Nancy Tompkins, a single mother and her two children, Nick and Ashley, who are polar opposites.  Andrea Champman rounds out the group, a divorced forty something who left the city to escape her failed marriage.

Seems like an interesting group, and will be interesting to see how they manage in comparison to Rick and his group.

As more information becomes available, I’ll keep you all updated.
